DESCRIPTION:As on every Monday of the year\, CANC members & friends often join those who’ve kept vigil to protest the death penalty for over 18 years. When the clocks “spring forward” one hour\, so does the hour to join in solidarity outside Central Prison (1300 Western Blvd\, Raleigh\, NC 27606). So bring a homemade sign or borrow one of ours\, and please consider joining us at 5:00 any Monday until November when the clocks “fall back” one hour\, and so does the peaceful protest.  \n\n\n\nQuestions? Sr. Helen Prejean is not only a huge inspiration to the members of CANC\, she is known around the world for her tireless work against the death penalty. She has been instrumental in sparking national dialogue on capital punishment and in shaping the Catholic Church’s vigorous opposition to all executions. \n\n\n\nAfter accompanying and witnessing the executions of two men at Louisiana State Penitentiary\, Patrick Sonnier and Robert Willie\, Sister Helen realized that this lethal ritual would remain unchallenged unless its secrecy was stripped away. She sat down and wrote her book\, Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States. (1993) It ignited a national debate that continues today on capital punishment and its brutal nature. You may have seen the Academy Award winning film\, Dead Man Walking based on her #1 NY Times Bestselling book. \n\n\n\nPlease save the date and join us – in person – for an enlightening evening. Bring family\, friends\, and especially anyone who is unaware of the Church’s teaching to abolish the death penalty.
