Our Mission & Vision
Our Vision
Catholics for Abolition in North Carolina (CANC) answer the Gospel call to recognize the sanctity of all life and work toward the abolishment of the death penalty in NC and the US.
Our Mission
In the light of the Gospel, the death penalty is “inadmissible, because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person.” (CCC 2267) Catholics for Abolition in North Carolina works with determination for the abolition of the death penalty in North Carolina by supporting the following pillars that build a culture of life.
I. Prayer and Worship – Focusing on increased participation in the sacramental life of the church and in programs of communal and individual prayer so that the culture of death that surrounds us today will be replaced by a culture of life and love.
II. Education and Formation – Deepening understanding, in ourselves and others, the sanctity of human life and the moral evil of intentionally killing human beings.
III. Public Policy – Advocating against the death penalty by contacting elected officials and those running for public office, while also working alongside other advocacy groups.
IV. Pastoral Care – Shepherding those who work for abolition, those incarcerated on death row, and praying for those affected by violent crime and their families.
