Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care is the fourth Pillar of our Mission Statement. From the perspectives of CANC’s co founders – one an ordained deacon and one a spiritual director –  CANC takes seriously the care for our spiritual and emotional needs as well as – when possible – these same needs for those on death row. We can do nothing without the Holy Trinity Who guides and protects our actions, who inspires and maintains our leadership. Whenever any Catholic finds her- or himself called to labor for the Seamless Garment, there will be a need for spiritual replenishment, to drink from the Well of Living Water.

As clerical and lay people of the Diocese of Raleigh, the members of Catholics for Abolition in North Carolina make a promise to offer spiritual and emotional support to those on death row to the best of our ability (by prayer,  letter writing, visiting), spiritual support to one another and to those who, like us, work for abolition.

It is our intention to offer our prayers and support to victims of violence as well as to family members of those on death row whenever the opportunity presents itself, even as our main focus is on abolition. We are still developing this part of our mission.

We care for ourselves, while working for abolition, by taking part in the sacramental life of the Church, engaging in prayer, and in making an annual religious retreat. We hold each other in respect and esteem for what each of us has to offer to the Mystical Body of Christ. ”For as in one body we have many parts, and all the parts do not have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ…” (Romans 12:4).
